Greetings from Chennai!

On Guru Purnima day in 2014, we inaugurated the YogaVahini centre in Besant Nagar, Chennai. We have completed 8 years and travelled far, even though it seems like baby steps in the direction we aspire to move! The community has been expanding with training programs, therapy and group classes as well as outreach programs. We will continue to strive towards taking this magnificent system of self-care and inner transformation to more and more people who can benefit from the Light of Yoga.

When the moon fully reflects the glory of the Sun but with its gentle, cool nature, we can see more, trust the path and deepen our commitment towards our practice and learning.

On this auspicious day, we wish the Guru from within will guide us towards a quieter mind, clear path and meaningful action in service of all beings!

Registrations are open for the next batch of Yoga Sadhana

Yoga Sadhana is a very special space where we explore what it means to practice yoga in everyday life. It helps us identify and change habit patterns that are not serving us well through regular practice and active self-inquiry. For those who aspire to become a teacher/therapist, Yoga Sadhana helps us understand our readiness for a more serious level of training.

Many senior teachers and therapists continue to come back to this course to refresh and reaffirm their commitment to practice, study and self-inquiry through these gentle 8 weekend sessions.

To benefit the most from this intensive exploration, you will need to have a regular personal yoga practice. If you are new to YogaVahini and this tradition of yoga, please register NOW so we can start you off with your personal practice with a mentor.

We insist on completing the 8-week Yoga Sadhana program for you to make an informed decision about continuing the journey into a more committed path at both personal and professional levels.

Yoga Vaidya 2022 - 25

Yogavahini 2022

After 30 months of online engagement, we are finally able to get together for an in-person residential retreat in the beautiful campus of Babuji Memorial Ashram (The Heartfulness Foundation) in Manapakkam, Chennai. A full house of aspiring Yoga Vaidyas beginning their journey exploring the philosophy, practice & application of personalised yoga therapy.

Specialised Study / Workshop Series

Introduction to Pranayama in Tirumandiram

On July 19th we start with an Introductory session for the 12 week long course Yoga in Tirumoolar's Tirumandiram. The course commences on August 2nd, every Tuesday 3 - 4.30 PM (IST).

Tirumandiram has 3000 verses spanning over nine Tandiram or chapters. In the introductory session, we endeavour to explore some of these verses to try reach a core thought of Tirumoolar's Yoga. A short practice session will also be included.

Not every woman experiences pregnancy and childbirth the same way! While this can be exciting and joyful, the shift it brings in the physical, physiological and mental well-being of the pregnant woman can make it challenging, overwhelming and stressful at times.

This workshop will cover:

▪ An overview of the Trimesters and what to expect
▪ The yogic approach in dealing with pre and postnatal care
▪ Food and lifestyle guidelines for the different stages
▪ Specific tools used in yoga to be used during each trimester and the contraindications.
▪ Addressing associated emotional challenges through pregnancy and post-delivery
▪ Practical approach to taking the student through a healthy pregnancy.
▪ Q&A
The 5 hour workshop will be conducted by Ms Anupama Das and Ms Talat Fatima, experienced and certified yoga teachers & therapists from YogaVahini.

We are beginning the study of Chapter 1 of Yoga Sutra (Samadhi Pada) in September.

This chapter was given by Patanjali to an advanced aspirant, a Samahita Citta, someone with a clear mind close to the state of Yoga. Nevertheless, it gives us a glimpse into what is and what is not a state of yoga, the understanding of the mind and how it operates, how to reach the highest state of yoga, Citta Vritti Nirodha, what obstacles come in the way and how to overcome them, culminating with presenting the different levels of Samadhi.

Please note that we have changed the days and timing for this module, made it slightly longer, based on our experience from the first module (Sadhana Pada) that we completed in May. And if you have not done Module 1 with us, you can start with Module 2 (chapter 1)!

Weekly live sessions: Saturdays 3 - 5.30 PM (IST)
Re-streaming followed by Q/A and discussion: Wednesdays 6 - 8.30 AM (IST)

What does it mean when we say, "I am on the path?" What assumptions are we making for ourselves and others - fellow practitioners, teachers and students?

One of the major obstacles on the path of yoga, for a serious practitioner is Pramada, the tendency of the mind to quickly get into a careless, mindless mode and operate from there. You can find a constant warning of the same also in the Upanisads. We will explore the manifestation and causes for Pramada and how to overcome this powerful, yet elusive deterrent for an aspirant.

A simple conscious step can take you a very long way! The small group classes for Beginners' (actual and intentional) is a sure step in the direction of making yoga a way of life for you and for your family because if it impacts you in a positive way, your family is sure to benefit as well!

You don't need to be a beginner but someone with a Beginner's mind! Cliched as much as it sounds, this is the first step towards bringing our conditioned mind to the threshold of unconditioning, cleaning and preparing for a better way to live, we begin and begin again, everyday!
